Who Can Attend Riverbank Charter School of Excellence?
All interested students may apply for admission. No child will be excluded from admission based on sex, race, color, creed, religion, or national origin, intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, status as a handicapped person, proficiency in the English language, or any other basis that would be illegal if used by a public school district.
There is no entrance exam or application fee, but priority admission is given to Florence Township resident children and their siblings. There are only 40 spaces available for each grade level. During the Recruitment Period all interested applicants submit a completed Pre-Admission Application to the school. At the conclusion of the Recruitment Period, if there are more applications than spaces available, a random lottery process will be conducted to determine admission to the school. When the spaces in each grade level are filled, names will continue to be drawn to form a “waiting list” for admission. The waiting list will be in effect for one year and students will be contacted in the order of their random drawing in the event that a space becomes available.
Riverbank Charter School of Excellence opened its door in September 2009. There are two classes at each grade level with a maximum of 20 students in each class in grades Kindergarten through Third Grade.
What Are The Hours of the School Day?
Riverbank Charter School of Excellence will be open from 7:15 AM – 6:00 PM daily. The instructional school day will begin at 8:15 AM and conclude at 3:15 PM. Families will have the opportunity to sign up for the Before & After Care Program if necessary.
Is Transportation Available?
Transportation to and from Riverbank Charter School of Excellence is provided for students who reside in Florence Township on the same terms and conditions as transportation is provided to students attending the schools of the district Board of Education.
Do All Staff Members Need To Be Certified?
All staff employed at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence will holds New Jersey certifications. Riverbank Charter School of Excellence recognizes the importance of professional development for all teachers. In compliance with New Jersey State requirements, teachers employed at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence will complete at a minimum, 100 clock hours of state-approved continuing professional development and/or in-services every five years.
Educators at charter school have more freedom to be innovative and more local control than educators at traditional public schools, which means they can tailor their lessons and educational plans to their students' needs. Unlike traditional public schools, charter schools must demonstrate success, or they will lose their charter.
How Can Parents Become Involved?
Parental and community support and involvement are integral components of the overall development of students' social, emotional, and academic skills. All are necessary to achieve and sustain a quality instructional program.
Riverbank Charter School of Excellence recognizes that student success is a result of a partnership between the school, the home and the community. There are many ways that Riverbank Charter School of Excellence can benefit from the input and hard work of our parents and the community. A few opportunities include but are not limited to:
