First Grade:
First grade students at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence continue to develop their academic and social skills in an inviting and structured work environment, that allows for maximum individual growth. The small class sizes are one benefit that the school implements to meet individual learning styles. This benefit gives students the ability to work in small and cooperative groups, where strong relationships and communication skills are strengthened.
Each of our academic programs for math, literacy, science and social studies are interdisciplinary, whereas each subject is not taught in isolation. They are reflected within one another to create real world examples, and bring substantial meaning to the content being taught. Each program incorporates hands-on learning and teaching methods to best assist each student, and their individual needs. The mathematics program focuses on using manipulative and word problems to work through all math concepts. The students develop their reading and writing skills through individual, partner, and small group activities. This also creates a sense of independence and accountability for the students' actions, and their learning. Science and social studies are taught through thematic units that reflect all academic subjects within them.
These programs and the staff, evoke a passion for learning in the students, and show the students that learning does not stop at the end of each day; but rather, it continues on as we all grow and develop.
