Second Grade:
Second grade students at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence are surrounded by an atmosphere where they are able to challenge themselves at their own pace. Independence peaks during second grade, and students build on their academic abilities through creative and individual expression. Here is where second grade students are given the opportunity to be peer buddies for the kindergarten students. This facilitates the development of a sense of responsibility and leadership.
The academic programs for second grade are grounded in real life learning experiences. This creates more meaningful learning that students are more likely to carry with them as they grow and develop. Curriculum is interdisciplinary where each topic is not taught in individually, but rather has components of all subjects tied into it. Students are continuing to enhance their reading and writing skills and building on the knowledge they have already gained. They are expanding their mathematical knowledge and applying it to real life situations. They also use their skills for social components of the classroom.
The character education program builds social, emotional and intellectual independence. Students learn to empathize with others and use the programs "Shooting Stars" to strengthen their individual personalities and reach out to the others in the school and community.
Second grade promotes independence, and individual expression through our strong and exceptional educational programs. Students continue to be engaged in learning through the passion that teachers instill in their students.
