Dissemination 6 Grant
Riverbank Charter School of Excellence was awarded the Dissemination 6 Grant by the New Jersey Department of Education’s Charter School Grant Program.
The purpose of the New Jersey Department of Education’s Charter School Grant Program, Dissemination 6 is to broaden the impact of charter school innovations and successful practices in order to improve student achievement statewide in New Jersey’s public schools. Through offering this competition, the NJDOE is working towards its overarching goal of increasing the number of high quality charter schools in the state. Eligible charter schools will be selected to develop projects to disseminate information, training, and technical assistance on documented successful practices that have been piloted in the grantee charter school. Success within this program requires the Grantee implement their successful practice in at least one other school.
Riverbank Charter School of Excellence has fulfilled the need of the Grant this by sharing successful instructional strategies and approaches in the area of literacy development.
Literacy development has been a priority at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence. Over the past 6 years, administration and staff have met continually to revise and incorporate best practices of a well-rounded, approach to literacy so that all students develop a strong foundation. Educational research has shown that literacy programs in grades K-3 should be designed so that ample instructional time is directed to the following areas:
The National Reading Panel identified these areas as critical components of literacy development and should be taught in an integrated context with consistent practice. This is especially imperative for those demonstrating difficulty in learning to read. Through this grant, Riverbank Charter School of Excellence has embraced the opportunity to share information, experiences, best practices, and resources so other school leaders and educational staff understand how to design a well-rounded literacy program that incorporates explicit instruction.
