Riverbank Charter School of Excellence Assessment

Teachers at Riverbank Charter School of Excellence administer the following assessments to every student to
track growth, stagnation, and/or regression of skills and knowledge. Gathering and analyzing data provided
from these assessments also afford teachers information to meet each student’s academic needs.

At the beginning of September and the end of each marking period student will participate in the
following assessments:
  • Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). The DRA is a formative reading assessment in which teachers are able to systemically observe, record, and evaluate changes in student reading performance. This isa proven, criterion-referenced assessment and includes recommendations for scaffolded support to increase student reading proficiency. A students DRA level (independent reading level) reflects the students oral reading fluency (95% accuracy) and comprehension (90%) at independent performance levels. The results of this assessment are noted on the student Report Card.

  • Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). DIBELS are individually administered
measures of student skills in each of the key basic early literacy skills. DIBELS are a set of procedures and
measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from Kindergarten through Sixth grade. They
are designed to be short fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy
and early reading skills. DIBELS are comprised of seven measures to function as indicators of phonemic
awareness, alphabetic principle, accuracy and fluency with connected text, reading comprehension, and
    vocabulary. https://dibels.uoregon.edu/

  • Dolch Sight Word List - The Dolch Sight Words list is the most commonly used set of sight words. The
list contains 220 “service words” plus 95 high-frequency nouns. These words comprise 80% of the words
you would find in a typical children’s book and 50% of the words found in writing for adults. Once a child
knows this list of words, it makes reading much easier, because the child can then focus his or her
attention on the remaining words. The Dolch words are commonly divided into groups by grade level,
ranging from pre-kindergarten to third grade, with a separate list of nouns. There are 315 Dolch
Sight Words. For an electronic list of the words please visit: http://www.dolchword.net/dolch-word-
    list.html
  • Riverbank Grade Level Writing Benchmark
  • Riverbank Grade Level Mathematics Benchmark

Additional Assessments are administered throughout the school year:
  • Measures of Academic Progress  (MAP). Students in First, Second, and Third grades take the MAP tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Mathematics and Reading. Students will test for approximately 60minutes each over two days.  These assessments are administered in September, January, and May.You can find more information at: https://www.nwea.org/assessments/map/

  • New Jersey State Learning Assessments (NJSLA)
The New Jersey Department of Education, in partnership with Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI), launched
the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-Adaptive (NJSLA-Adaptive). These assessments are aligned
with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for English Language Arts (ELA) (Reading and
Writing) and Mathematics and are designed to continue to give students the opportunity to demonstrate
their knowledge and skills in a meaningful way. These computer-adaptive tests are assessment tools that
determines future questions based on a student's responses to prior questions, creating a more
personalized experience for each learner. An adaptive assessment measures each student’s knowledge
with greater precision since students receive more items closer to their current level. These assessments
are administered in May of each school year.
